Defence Science and Technology Agency, DSTA is awarding scholarships to Junior College, Polytechnic and University students interested in pursuing a career in info comm technology and engineering.

These scholarships are awarded annually and in different categories. The requirements for Junior college, Polytechnic and University students are not entirely the same. However, interested students must be from Singapore.

About DSTA

The Defence Science and Technology Agency or DSTA is the central procurement agency for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

It is a highly rated technological agency that focuses on making the Singapore Armed Forces a formidable fighting force through the use of science and technology. The agency ensure soldiers are readily equipped with the latest technological systems and weapons in order to defend the country.

DSTA is on a mission to harness and exploit science and technology by providing engineering support, and technology to meet the defence and national security needs of Singapore.

While it is their duty to make the country and people protected, they also ensure there is a strong bond and inspiration between them and the people.

Who can apply for DSTA Scholarship

The DSTA Scholarships are available for Junior college, Polytechnic and University students in Singapore. You must be a Singaporean interested in pursuing a career in science, technology or engineering. Students can choose to study in Singapore or Overseas, provided that they pass all the eligibility requirements.

DSTA Scholarship Eligibility

The requirements for students are different. If you are a junior college applicant, read the requirements thoroughly before applying. The same applies to undergraduate students.

  1. Applicant must be a citizen of Singapore
  2. You must possess good academic and CCA track records
  3. A GCE ‘A’ Level results or equivalent qualifications (e.g. NUS High School Diploma, International Baccalaureate) or Polytechnic Diploma
  4. Demonstrate passion for science and technology.

Benefits of Becoming a DSTA Scholar

  • Full Tuition and compulsory fees
  • Books and computer allowances
  • Additional annual allowance
  • Internship opportunity
  • All expense paid for Overseas Student Exchange program
  • Commitment service for four years
  • All expense paid for studies, inclusive of Master’s if applicable.

For DSTA Scholars studying Overseas

  • Full tuition and compulsory fees
  • Books, computer and other Overseas maintenance allowance
  • Returning travel ticket (economy class)
  • Internship opportunity
  • All expense paid for Student Exchange program
  • Five years of service commitment (Non-English speaking countries)
  • All expense paid studies, including Master’s if applicable
  • Global internship program
  • Commitment service for five years (Non-English speaking countries).

How to apply

Eligible students must register on the DSTA website to begin the application process. You will be prompted to create an account (if you don’t already have an account). Then select the desired scholarship category and start the application. Make sure you read the scholarship guidelines properly and provide the required documents (if required).

DSTA Scholarship Interviews

After your online application, you will be prompted to undergo an interview (if selected). The interview process takes about 4 weeks (sometimes less or more) in Singapore. It is a thorough process with series of questioning majorly on science-related interests, leadership positions and current affairs. Prepare fully for your interview, as your scholarship depends on it.

DSTA Scholarship Recipients

List of recipients will be published once the scholarship committee selects the most deserving students. In 2021, 23 students were awarded the DSTA scholarships, this year could be more.

DSTA Scholarship Deadline

Each category of scholarship has a different date of closure. Junior college, Polytechnic and University students should endeavor to submit their application before their various deadlines. Frequently check your scholarship portal for updates on your scholarship interview and news.

DSTA Scholarship closes on 26 December 2022.
