The CHED-Tulong Dunong Scholarship is an annual scholarship hosted by The Commission on Higher Education (CHED Philippines). The CHED scholarship has been helping over 900,000 students per year through its scholarship program.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) was created on May 18, 1994 through the passage of Republic Act No. 7722, or the Higher Education Act of 1994. The Scholarship is aimed at helping and empowering the youth’s academic and career goals by removing their financial barrier.

The CHED-Tulong Dunong scholarship is open and accepting students to study a wide variety of courses in their institution. The Commission on Higher Education allocated 800,000 scholarship slots for FYSEP and over 100,000 slots for StuFAP.

The scholarship is strictly awarded to Filipino citizens who have attained a good grade in High School. However, the qualifications differs for candidates depending on your course of study and mode of application.

Categories of Scholarship

  1. Full State Scholarship Program (FSSP) and Full Private Education Student Financial Assistance (FPESPA)
  2. Half State Scholarship Program (HSSP) and Half Private Education Student Financial Assistance (HPESPA).

The Full State Scholarship Program (FSSP) awards qualified candidates PhP 80,000 annually and the Full Private Education Student Financial Assistance (FPESPA) awards candidates PhP 120,000 annually.

The Half State Scholarship Program (HSSP) awards qualified candidates PhP 40,000 annually and the Half Private Education Student Financial Assistance (HPESPA) awards qualified candidates PhP 60,000 annually.

Scholarship Requirements

The CHED requirements are grouped into 3 categories:

1. Citizenship

Every applicant must provide their respective birth certificates as proof of being a citizen of the Philippines. Failure to do so reduces the chances of getting awarded.

2. Academic performance

  • Applicants are required to provide an original copy of High school report card for incoming freshmen students eligible for college.
  • Applicants are required to provide an original copy of grades for Grade 11 and 1st semester of Grade 12 for graduating from high school students.

3. Financial statement

  • Certificate of Tax Exemption from Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)
  • Most recent Income Tax Return (ITR) of parents or guardian
  • A Case Study report from DSWD or most recent copy of proof of income may be considered for children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and seafarers.
  • Certificate of Indigence either from their Barangay or Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)

CHED-Tulong Dunong Eligibility

  1. A Filipino citizen.
  2. A High school graduate with good grades (general average).
  3. An applicant with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 96% or above for Full State Scholarship Program (FSSP) and Full Private Education Student Financial Assistance (FPESPA). Or GWA of 93% for Half-SSP and Half-PESPA, but not more than 95%
  4. An applicant with only one government-funded financial assistance program.
  5. An applicant with a combined annual gross income of parents/guardian which does not exceed a Four Hundred Thousand Pesos (PhP 400,000). If the applicant’s annual income exceeds PhP 400,000, such applicant must provide a document on medical findings of illness of a family member, or school certifications of two or more dependents enrolled in college.

The CHED scholarship offers a wide variety of courses, and applicants are expected to select the institution’s priority courses. Failure to accept from the approved CHED scholarship might defer your chances of receiving the scholarship.

Application for the CHED scholarship is available online. Eligible candidates are required to visit the Commission on Higher Education website to commence their application according to their respective regions.

Deadline for Application

The scholarship is currently ongoing and the deadline for application is May 31, 2023. Qualified candidates are mandated to submit all documents required during the application. Also, ensure each document submitted is valid and not fake.

Other information about the Filipino Scholarship

The CHED Scholarship requires successful CHED scholars to maintain a GWA of at least 85% or equivalent if you are a full scholar or 80% or its equivalent if a half scholar. Any scholar who fails to meet up with these criteria will result in withdrawal from scholarship.

The CHED program allows students to enroll in priority programs of Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) or State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) / Local Universities or Colleges (LUCs) with Certificate of Program Compliance.

Successful applicants are required to start their enrollment process within one after notification of approval has been received by the student. It is compulsory to begin registration within the first month of approval or else, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Note: Applicants will be notified on their application status on or before May 30 of every year. If you got approved, start enrolling in June up to July 10 for first priority courses. If you applied for second priority courses, start enrolling by 16 to 30 of September.

Applicants are required to submit their application at any CHED Regional Office. For more information, visit http://ched.gov.ph, or call on 708-7042 or 7086655 for Metro Manila and nearby provinces; 931-7000 for overseas Filipinos under Global Aksyon Kabisig Sa.

Mistakes to Avoid During Application

  1. Do not submit your application when you score below the General Weighted Average (GWA) as required by the Commission of High Education.
  2. Avoid proceeding application if you are a graduate from a private school not recognized by CHED.
  3. Do not apply for CHED Scholarship if you are below 18 years old.
  4. Don’t file more than one application per semester or summer school program.
  5. Avoid taking more than two courses from different disciplines.
  6. Do not proceed application if your parents/guardian annual income is more than PhP 400,000 except you provide a written certification or medical findings of illness of a family member, or school certifications of two or more dependents enrolled in college.
