About CALAHE

The Connecticut Association of Latinos in Higher Education (CALAHE), is an educational network established in 1978 by a group of Latino educators from a few colleges and universities in the state.

It was observed that the Hispanic presence in Connecticut higher education was started to take on a new demographic significance and that it was time to address in a methodical way the unique needs of Latino students, staff, faculty and administrators in the state’s colleges and universities. This brought about the CALAHE Organization.

The educational network was formed to help Latino students, staff, faculty and administrators in the state’s colleges and universities. Presently, CALAHE is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the participation of Latinos in different areas of post-secondary education in Connecticut.

Objectives of CALAHE Organization

  • The organization is aimed in encouraging Connecticut higher education to provide necessary retention services for Latino/Latina students and employees.
  • To advocate access of Latinos/Latinas in Connecticut higher education.
  • To promote and facilitate the participation of Latino communities in higher education throughout Connecticut.
  • To influence public policy and legislation related to higher education in Connecticut.
  • To ensure Connecticut higher education develops and maintain recruitment, retention services and programs.
  • To promote hiring of Latinos/Latinas in Connecticut higher education.

Who can Apply for CALAHE Scholarship?

The CALAHE Scholarship 2022 is open for incoming freshman students and college undergraduates who are Latinos/Latinas.

This scholarship is primarily focused on promoting the higher Education for Latino communities throughout Connecticut. The non-profit organization (CALAHE) is ensuring that the state provides necessary retention services for Latino/Latina students and employees.

Eligibility Criteria for CALAHE Scholarship

  1. Interested applicants MUST be a High School Senior/GED equivalent or Undergraduate College Student.
  2. Applicants must be a Latinx student from Connecticut.
  3. Must have been a Connecticut resident for at least a year.
  4. Applicants must show proof of needing financial assistance.
  5. Accepted to or attending an accredited institution of higher education.
  6. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater for all completed course work at the time of application.
  7. Applicants must have demonstrated community service within the Latinx community.
  8. Interested Applicants must be pursing their first Undergraduate degree and must be a full time student.

How to Apply for CALAHE Scholarship 2022

1. Download and complete the Application Form. CALAHE Scholarship Application Form.
2. Undocumented/DACA students must submit the Verification of Financial Need form.

Required Documents for CALAHE Scholarship

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Acceptance letter from college or university (for high school seniors or GED Students).
  3. Written Essay with topic: “How do you feel this scholarship is going to impact your ability to pursue your education?” (Maximum 2 page typewritten double space statement).
  4. Two Letters of Recommendation. One of the letters Must be written by a teacher. The letters should be written within the last six months and must have your names typed at the top right side margin.
  5. Official transcripts of high school or college.
  6. A copy of The Federal Student Aid Report (SAR) or Undocumented/DACA students must submit the Verification of Financial Need.

All selected scholars must attend the scholarship reception. The venue and date for the ceremony will be communicated to awarded students and the appropriate time. Students who do not, or cannot, attend the reception will forfeit their award.

This scholarship is renewable for one year only, recipients must reapply.
